This webpage has a huge database with many kinds of data from different fields. It has been useful to gather information about the CIS’ countries’ population and GDP.

This news article talks about how an increasing percentage of people have access to the internet over time, and points out that the CIS holds this figure at 72,2%, 10 points below Europe. That shows how the CIS does progress in some ways.

This online newspaper article in Spanish explains how the CIS project has always been object of debate and contradictions. It’s very interesting to understand the situation of inestability that has often «defined» this organization.

This online newspaper article talks about the territorial conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the region of Nagorno-Karabakh. This is one of the many problems suffered by the countries of the CIS, and which make progress harder to achieve.

This book aims to analyze the process of disintegration of the Soviet Union, along with the attempts to create a new paradigm in the Post-Soviet area. It’s especially useful to see specific aspects of the CIS that were crucial to its creation and situation.

In this book the author offers his own vision of the process of improving the mechanism of interaction within the Commonwealth. Considerable attention in the book is paid to the issues of institutional development of the CIS, and it is therefore useful to understand the relations between the States at the time.

This magazine was a great reference to understand the perception of the CIS, and especially the doubts and uncertainty surrounding it. It points out those aspects that may be final for the outcome, and previews different possible scenarios.

-Sakwa, R. and Webber M., 1999. The Commonwealth of Independent States, 1991-1998: Stagnation and Survival. Europe-Asia Studies. 51(3). pp.379-415.

This academic article cleary makes a diference between the CIS and the USSR. The CIS hasn’t been a good successor.

The World Bank offers financial and technical assistance to developing countries, and also offers socioeconomic data, among other. This certain reference was extremely useful to get information on the total GDP of the world, although it had to be converted from dollars to euros, to then compare it to that of the CIS’.

The World Bank website helped us find data on the population density, with a map to represent this data in a much more visual and understandable way, for every single country. We focused on the members of the CIS.

Data regarding the total world population could also be found in the World Bank website, which allowed us to make a comparison with the total population of the CIS members and the organization all together.
